Funding Research
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a long-term condition for which, currently, there is no cure, and the exact causes are unknown. MS is also associated with an increase in disability over time. Currently, the availability of treatments aimed at stopping the progression of disability is very limited.
A major research project which is funded by the MS Society has made the discovery that it may be possible to encourage the brain’s own stem cells to repair myelin. This could lead to a treatment that actually repairs the damage caused by MS ! This project is being carried out jointly in Edinburgh and Cambridge. More details are available on the MS website.
The Stirling Branch have contributed £6,000 this year towards the cost of this research
